Jessie Alvin Dykes passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on March 11, 2026. He was born on February 18, 1948, in Nauvoo, Alabama, to Bonnie Estelle Dykes and Jessie David Darty. During his childhood he lived in several places, including California, Alabama, Ohio, Utah, and Colorado.
Jessie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held the office of High Priest. He loved his service as a Ward Clerk and Sunday School Teacher and spent many hours studying and learning the scriptures.
He attended the Job Corps in Clearfield, Utah, where he earned his GED. He especially enjoyed reading about the Renaissance Era and stories of knights. Jessie had a lifelong love of history. He was also passionate about family history and spent many hours searching and researching his ancestors and learning about where his family came from. Family meant everything to him. Jessie loved sharing stories about the places he had lived and the experiences he had with his family.
Jessie worked for KGO Channel 7 TV and Radio for 36 years, where he had the opportunity to meet many celebrities, authors, and well-known personalities.
He married Sandra McMillin where he helped care for her children, whom he loved and considered his own. Sandra later passed away.
He then met Joan Beasley, and they were married in December 2008 in Clearfield, Utah. Jessie and Joan enjoyed spending time with friends at the Roy Senior Center, where they painted ceramics and went on bus trips to Wendover.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and son Steve Funkner (Pam).
Jessie is survived by his wife, Joan; son Robert Funkner (Ludy) and family; Jeanie Bosen (Jeff) and family, Aaron Robinson (Brandy) and family, Jared Robinson (Sandy) and family, Sheryl Forsberg (Jason) and family, and Emily Scothern (Clayton) and family; which includes 30 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Hooper City Cemetery, 5290 South 6300 West, Hooper, UT 84315. Friends may visit with family on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, Roy, UT 84067.
