JessaLee King

January 23, 1950 — November 3, 2022

JessaLee King, 72, of Nampa, Idaho passed away peacefully surrounded by her family early Thursday morning, November 3, 2022.

Born in Ogden, Utah on January 23, 1950 to Frank Irving and Olga Eva Garrard Hersom, JessaLee was the third of seven children.

Raised and schooled in both Sunset and South Ogden, Utah. She graduated from Bonneville High School Class of 1968.

JessaLee married the love of her life, Ross Levi King on May 1, 1970 in the Salt Lake City Temple.

They raised a family of five children together and often enjoyed going for family day trips and summer vacations centered around family history. Their trips took them from California to Maine and all over in between.

JessaLee worked for a number of years as a professional seamstress and tailor at home and for Utah Tailoring, but her greatest love was serving as a devoted mother and young grandmother.

Her hobbies include sewing, crafts, family history, church history, baking and teaching her children and grandchildren. She woke her children early every morning to family scripture study around the breakfast table and throughout the day you would find her listening to uplifting music with the windows open to nature while she worked in the kitchen. She loved spending her later years with her best friend and husband, Ross. They loved to visit their children out of state and explore new places together. She was a practical joker and would send her husband to work with silly changes to his lunches, to include cotton ball filled cherry chocolates. Each one of her grandchildren knows when they’re asked how much Gramie loves them: “A Bushel and a Peck and a Hug Around the Neck.”

A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, JessaLee served faithfully as a primary teacher, nursery leader, stake missionary, visiting teacher and ministering sister. She enjoyed writing the relief society newsletter and loved her calling to specifically reach out to and visit home bound and inactive sisters.

She will always be remembered for her kindness. “Mrs King” was well known in Layton, Utah and was everyone’s ‘other mother.’ She was even a Gramie to many of her grandchildren’s friends. She looked forward to her days working for Vae View elementary as a lunch lady. She assisted as a seamstress and flower coordinator for Miss Layton, Utah Pageants. She also proudly handsewed several intricate wedding gowns in her life, to include all three of her daughters’ gowns. She will be remembered for her testimony of the Gospel and for her love of our Savior, Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. Genealogy work and family history was a passion she shared with Ross.

During her brief stay at Streamside Assisted Living Center, she and her beloved husband, Ross, fostered many new friendships with both residents and the staff. JessaLee had a bright smile for everyone she encountered there.

JessaLee is preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Olga Hersom and her granddaughter Amanda Young. She is survived by her heartbroken husband of 52 years Ross King of Nampa, Idaho, her siblings: Frank Hersom (Merlynn) Houston, Texas, Gloria McFarland (Van) West Weber, Utah, Mark Hersom (Kerry) Salt Lake City, Utah, Cheryl McKinney (Lance) Mapleton, Utah, Carol Arave (Len) North Salt Lake, Utah, MaryAnn Andrus (Alan), her children: Melissa Young (Randy) Nampa, Idaho, Ross King Jr (Sarah) Clinton, Utah, Katie King Farmington, Utah, Britten Erickson (Joe) Boise, Idaho, Bill (Amy) Kansas City, Missouri, 26 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd., North Ogden. Friends may visit with family from 9-10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 E 2850 N, North Ogden.
