Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Jeanene Charlotte Robbins Child, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Jeanene was born at home in Layton, Utah, on March 3, 1943, to Loren and Maxine Stewart Robbins. As their only daughter, she was a joyful and cherished surprise. Her older brother, Roland (R.L.) Robbins, delighted in his role as her big brother, especially when it came to teasing her.
She graduated from Davis High School in May 1961 and went on to attend cosmetology school, where she graduated at the top of her class. Jeanene enjoyed a brief but fulfilling career as a cosmetologist and continued to generously share her talents with family and friends for many years.
On June 3, 1965, she married the love of her life, Duane L. Child, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were devoted companions for nearly 60 years and were rarely apart. Jeanene deeply valued Duane as her steady and supportive partner in all of life’s challenges and adventures.
Jeanene’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Duane, and their four children: Curtis (Teri) Child, Kristin Child Elinkowski, Eric (Michele) Child, and Travis (Courtney) Child. She is now reunited in heaven with their beloved son, Adam, who passed away on April 17, 1977.
She was a proud and loving grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Carver (Abby) Child, Adam Elinkowski, Porter Child, Lexi (Scott) McDonald, Tenna (Kordell) Welch, Davis (Emma) Child, Anna (James) Elinkowski, Austin Child, Emma (Luke) Schroeder, Victoria Child, Landon Child, Carson Child, and Izzy Child. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Charlotte Child, Grace Child, Leo McDonald, and Navy Child.
Jeanene was a loyal and vibrant friend to many. She was witty, fun-loving, and full of life. Her infectious laugh could light up any room—and often did. Her friendships were dear to her, and she never missed a chance for a party, lunch date, spontaneous visit, or heartfelt phone call.
She loved to travel and made wonderful memories exploring the world with her husband, family, and friends. From 2006 to 2007, she and Duane served an LDS Humanitarian Mission in Laos - as part of the Bangkok, Thailand mission - a meaningful experience she treasured deeply. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved her Savior Jesus Christ with all of her heart. She faithfully served in many church callings and found many loving friends through her church activity and service.
Jeanene was also a fantastic cook and hostess. She found joy in bringing people together through delicious meals, game nights, and gatherings. She loved shopping, hiking, walking with friends, and embracing life with spontaneity and enthusiasm.
In addition to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she is also survived by her brother Roland Robbins, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Adam, her grandparents, and many loving in-laws.
We will celebrate Jeanene’s beautiful life on what would have been her 60th wedding anniversary, Tuesday June 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the Layton East Stake Center, 1015 N. Emerald Dr., 84040. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah and again prior to the service at the Stake Center from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 S. Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
Jeanene lived life to the fullest and left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
