Janice Tolman

1941 -2022

Janice Rae Earnshaw Tolman passed away peacefully on September 25, 2022. She was born on August 4, 1941, to parents Lester Earnshaw and Thelma Hart Earnshaw. She was part of a very loving and close knit family. She was a truly dedicated daughter and loved and served her parents. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray Tolman in the Salt Lake Temple on March 11, 1960. They were married for 62 years and only separated by death for three months. 

Janice graduated from Bountiful High School and attended classes at LDS Business College. She raised two daughters and worked very hard to help support her family. She started her successful banking career in 1966 at Bountiful State Bank, advanced to management roles at American Savings and Loan, and Zion’s Bank where she retired in 2001 after 20 years. She also served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Young Women’s president, a Relief Society president in her ward and stake, and a stake missionary. In her later years she served as a Relief Society president of the Life Care Branch and an Activity Days leader. Through the years, Janice beautifully balanced the demands of work, her callings in the Church, and most important her devotion to her family.

Family was her priority. She loved her family dearly and took time to plan and develop rich traditions.  She made every celebration and get together extra special for her children and grandchildren. She was a fun and involved grandma and her grandchildren adored her. She was always happiest when family was gathered. She is survived by her daughters Wendy (Matt) Fischer and Sherrie (Todd) Pace; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray; brother Dean Earnshaw; and sister Cheryl Price. The family wishes to thank her longtime friend and hairdresser Rob Rawson for his care through the years.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Val Verda 8th Ward Chapel, 2651 S 500 W, Bountiful, UT 84010. Friends my visit with family on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N 400 E and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at the Bountiful City Cemetery. Services will be live-streamed by scrolling to the bottom of Janice's obituary page.
