Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter and dear friend, Janice Kunkle Markland 82, passed away peacefully October 27, 2021 at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah.

Jan was born February 11, 1939 in St Louis, Missouri. She grew up in small towns in Wyoming. She went to high school in Casper , Wyoming where at the age of 16 she met and married her eternal companion, Stanley Markland. They were married on September 9, 1955. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on February 26, 1965. Jan and Stan celebrated their 66th Anniversary on September 9th of this year.

Jan and Stan raised three sons and one daughter; Gary, Steve, Pat and Rod (Jamie). By example they taught their children the meaning of family, love, strength, dedication, service, compassion and a strong work ethic.

Jan spent her early years as a wife, mother and homemaker. As the children got older and time allowed, in 1980 she went back to school and earned her High School Diploma. She went on to become a teacher's aide at this same school. She found great pleasure in helping troubled youth find their way at both Granite alternative School and Decker Lake Youth Correctional Facility.

Over the years Jan enjoyed many hobbies and passions. She was a very talented artist. If you were lucky enough to receive one of her oil paintings or ceramic art pieces, they were a true treasure. She spent many tireless hours researching and compiling her Genealogy. She loved gardening and took great pride in her yard. Every rock, wind chime, birdhouse, or sunflower had it's place.

Jan loved - owls (because they reminded her of her late sister Jeannie), scrap booking, collecting nut crackers, and anything sunflowers. She also loved being a mother to her many dogs over the years; Harley, Scooter, Tanner, and Muggs.

Jan loved her family deeply and treasured every moment spent with kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She had four grandkids and seven great grandkids with the addition of two bonus grandkids and six great grandkids through marriage.

Jan was preceded in death by both parents, Elsie Haywood Kunkle and Harold Kunkle; stepmother, Virginia Kunkle; both parents-in-law, Forrest and Ruby Markland; sister, Jeannie White(Danny); brother, Bill Kunkle; two sons, Gary Markland and Steve Markland; grandson, Bob Ivester; granddaughter, Ashley Markland Robinson; and many dear friends and neighbors.
