JaNene Jensen passed away April 15, 2025, at the fair age of 84 years old. She was born March 16, 1941, to Earnest and Dora Maxwell in Park City, UT, and she spent most of her childhood in Washington Terrace City, UT. She graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State University majoring in Cosmetology. She retired from Hill Air Force Base after 28 years of service.
JaNene lived an adventurous life, and as a result of that adventure, she became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Roy Eagles #3355, and a member of the American Legion. She also enjoyed golfing, baking, dancing, Christmas caroling, bowling, gambling, piano, writing poems, gardening, crafts, and shopping (especially QVC). She was a hopeless romantic at heart. Even though she experienced a lot of heartbreak, including the loss of her spirited son Chad, she always chose love.
In September of 1966 she met her husband Karl Butters and fell in love. Karl had four children, and she was so happy to be able to be their stepmother. She had longed for a baby of her own and they were blessed with Heidi in May of 1967. They would also welcome their sweet baby boy Chad, on August of 1970. They went their separate ways but remained amicable.
In 1981 she would meet Jack and fall madly in love. They lived it up every moment they had together. Jack passed away from kidney failure in 1996. A man named Al came into her life and showed her once again, love was possible. They married in 1998 and had 10 years together until he passed from ALS in 2008.
JaNene got a job as a bus attendant for kids with special needs in 2010. She came home one day and told her daughter “I met the cutest guy on the bus! His name is Lonnie! He is the bus driver.” He took her on even more adventures. Going up to his cabin in Causey, laughing, talking, and just spending time together. She said he was the best man she’d ever met.
She loved all things, but the one thing she loved most was her family. They all knew any time they needed anything, they knew they could call her, and she would be there. The one thing she always said was “to look on the positive side,” and those who are still here will try to live their lives with as much adventure and love as she did.
JaNene is survived by her daughter, Heidi (Terry) Szerszen; her stepsons, Todd (Jeanie) Butters, Kevin (Trudy) Butters, David Larson (Brad Simmons); her stepdaughter, Michelle Hart; her grandkids, Tyler (Sarah) Marcus, Aliesha Marcus (Adam), and Jamie Marcus (James); her great-grandkids, Sawyer Marcus, and Brady Jorgensen; her sweet boyfriend, Lonnie Lewis; and sisters, Deanna Roskelley and Myrna Montag. She was preceded in death by her son, Chad Butters; her mother and father, Dora and Ernest; her brothers, Bob and Denny; and her sister, Nadine.
JaNene preferred to be remembered as she lived, and who she was. So, she did not want a funeral, or a viewing. She wanted a graveside service only. It will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
