Listen to Obituary

James Clark Steel “Clark” passed peacefully in the arms of his mother on Friday, September 5, 2025. Three-month-old Clark was born to James Wesley Steel “Wes” and Lydia Anderson Steel “Dia” in Layton on June 3, 2025.

Clark was a fighter from the very beginning, entering the world 6 weeks before his due date and spending 24 days in the NICU, being loved, cared for, and cherished by family members and hospital staff. Upon coming home to Syracuse, Utah, Clark spent time with his many adoring family members.

He is survived by his parents, maternal grandparents Emily and Scott Anderson, paternal grandparents Curtis and Maureen Steel, maternal great-grandparents Karen and Douglas Anderson, Peggy Skeen, paternal great-grandparents Dean and LuAnn Steel, James and Lilian Ermatinger, 5 aunts, 5 uncles, 1 cousin, and many great-aunts, great-uncles, and second cousins.

He is preceded in death by his great-grandpa Grant Skeen. There has never been a shortage of people to love baby Clark.

Clark loved listening to music, especially when sung by his mother or played on guitar by his father. He used his voice so frequently cooing his opinion about everything. He loved tummy time on his dad’s chest, car rides, and could spend all day long in a warm bath. He enjoyed being read to and gave the absolute best snuggles in the world. Clark discovered how to smile and saved the biggest ones for his mama. In his time on earth, Clark’s strawberry-blonde hair and blue eyes managed to capture the hearts of everyone he met. His impact continues as he is an organ donor and has been able to save the life of another baby. The lives he touched will be forever changed for the better.

A viewing will be held for family and loved ones at the Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., private funeral services to follow.

Contributions can be made by donating to GoFundMe to be used towards Clark’s NICU medical expenses.
