Listen to Obituary

On January 21, we lost our beloved husband, father, and friend, James E. Niderost, who passed away at the age of 80.

James was born on March 16, 1945, in Ukiah, California, to Joseph Niderost and Mildred Tuso. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force, beginning what would become a lifelong dedication to service. He was stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Utah, where he worked as a mechanic on F-16 aircraft. Through hard work and commitment, he advanced in his career and retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.

Following his military retirement, James continued serving as a civilian employee on base. He worked alongside Senator Hansen in efforts to prevent Hill Air Force Base from closing. In total, James proudly served 41 years at Hill Air Force Base.

James met the love of his life, Judy Drysdale, while cruising Washington Boulevard in Ogden, Utah. They were married on May 18, 1967, and later made their home in Kaysville, Utah, where they raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Janalee.

While living in Kaysville, James and Judy met two stake missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Four years later, they were baptized and later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. James faithfully served in many church callings, including Sunday School President, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Executive Secretary, Primary Teacher, and as a Service Missionary at the Conference Center and the Church History Museum.

James enjoyed woodworking, especially making clocks, reading, fishing, camping, visiting Disneyland, touring historical sites, and—most of all—spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Niderost; his mother, Mildred (Tuso) Conover; and his sisters, Barbara and Karen Searles.

James is survived by his loving wife, Judy (Drysdale) Niderost; his daughters, Jennifer (Matt) Bailey, and Janalee Niderost; and his brother, Joe (Marlene) Niderost.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Active Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional love, care, and support.

James was a shining example of Christlike love—kind, compassionate, and always putting others first. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a loyal friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
