Jack Evans

John "Jack" William Evans, 83, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. He was born on April 18, 1928 the second of four children born to John and Eleanor Evans. He grew up in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School in 1946. In 1948, he graduated from Weber Junior College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

On June 7, 1955, he married Alice Jane Gowans in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in June. Jack served faithfully and enjoyed many callings in the Church.

He owned and operated Evans Superette in downtown Ogden for over 40 years, where he had many loyal customers and enjoyed helping those in need. Many in the community knew him as ''Mr. Jack''. He retired from the store in 1987.

Jack loved the years at Lake Powell with his family as "Captain of The Funship". He was happiest spending time in the mountains hunting and fishing, and later at his cabin. He supported his many grandchildren in all their activities. He and Alice could usually be found at Weber State University football and basketball games and traveling on many road trips with friends cheering on the team.

Jack is survived by his wife, Alice G. Evans; son, John W. (Holly) Evans Jr., West Haven; daughters, Carrie (Scott) Nelson, Puyallup, Washington; Julie (Kurt) Boyer, Ogden; Patti Pilgrim, Plain City; Amy (Brian) Smith, Ogden; D''Ann Fletcher, Pleasant View; and Laurel (Brad) Robb, Willard; 27 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Evans; and sister, Sue E. Naisbitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jim Evans.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Burch Creek 5th Ward, 4955 Adams. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Garden of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
