Jack Curtis Allen
Jack Curtis Allen, (Poppie) passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 13, 2011. He was born May 6, 1926 to Brent Taylor and Laverna Pitcher Allen in Trenton, Utah.
During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, and served his country in the Pacific. He served on the USS Ocklawaha AO-84. After the war, he worked as a sheet metal worker at H.A.F.B and retired after many years. On November 6, 1954, he married Delpha Jean Greaves in Ogden, Utah. Jack was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed bowling, and was in many leagues. He loved to golf and was a member of the hole in one club at the White Barn. He was an active member of the Ogden Athletic Club for 24 years, and went every day. He loved his grandchildren very much, and enjoyed attending all of their sports and school activities. He had a special group of friends that he met at the mall for coffee every day. Jack was very good at fixing things and creating fun games and gadgets for his family. Jack and Delpha enjoyed family vacations to Hawaii, California, Sun Valley, and Jackson Hole. After retirement they enjoyed trips to England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Mexico, and Canada.
Jack is survived by his wife Delpha; daughters, Pam Carter Mondfrans, South Ogden; Linda (Denis) Thurgood, Layton; six grandchildren, Candie Burnett; Cassie and Callie Carter; and Trevor, Taylor (Chenille), and Tannor Foulger; three great-grandchildren; and sister Shirley Allen Winchester, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Brent Taylor Allen and Leon Vincent Allen; and sisters, Linnie Hansen, Willa Lewis, and Verona Burton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11:45 to 12:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
