J Ross Farrer

August 9, 1942 — August 15, 2023

Bountiful, Utah

J Ross Farrer, aged 81, of Bountiful, Utah, graduated from this life at his home on August 15th, 2023 after years of old age. He was born on August 9th, 1942, in Provo, Utah to J Ross and Nyta Black Farrer.

Ross was called to serve in the British Mission. He began his service in October 1961 timid, shy and fearful. He overcame this through service and left his mission with confidence in his Savior and in himself. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era where he served as an aircraft maintenance officer and finished his military service at Hill Air Force Base in Utah. After studying accounting at BYU, he married Linda Patrice Liddle on December 1st, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. He started his career at Evans and Sutherland as an accountant. Later in his career he went back to college to get licensed as a nursing home administrator and was given the position temporarily for 10 years. As a demonstration of his love of people, he learned everyone's name, both employee and resident, at the nursing home. He concluded his career at Utah Retirement Systems where he worked for 10 years.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was dedicated to service. He served as Bishop, Elders Quorum President, and High Priest Group Leader. He was a Scout Committee Chair for nine years, and he did Scouting for Food for 25 years for his Scouting district. His commitment to feeding the poor extended beyond Scouting where he and Linda started a Christmas tradition of giving money to their grandchildren to purchase items for the food pantry. Ross asked his family to donate blood instead of giving him gifts.

He is survived by four children: Tammy, Evan (Emily), Tyler (Erin), Colin (Sam), 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; his three siblings: Mike (Karma) Farrer, Janine (Steven) Murdock, and JoNan (John deceased) Preston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, parents, J Ross and Nyta, and his stepfather, Leon Giles.

We give thanks to the family, friends, neighbors, and medical professionals that assisted him over the years. His self-deprecating humor and kindness will be missed. To the end he was kind and insisted on doing his good turn daily.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a food pantry or donate blood.
