Howard Shurtliff Wade
Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Howard Shurtliff Wade peacefully left this life in the loving arms of his dearest Louise on March 22, 2012 in Fruit Heights, Utah of causes incident to his ninety-four years.
He was born on February 19, 1918 to Orlando C. and Ida "V" Shurtliff, the second of five children. He was a lifelong resident of Ogden and a graduate of Ogden High School. Following graduation, he entered an apprenticeship as an electrician with the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was while he was in training in Sparks, Nevada that he met his Eternal Companion, Ruth Louise Gibbons, also of Ogden, at a church social in Susanville, California. They were married on his birthday in 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away in 1996 after 54 years of marriage.
Into that union were born two sons, H. Dean (Judy) of Fruit Heights, and Lynn G. (Janice) of Ogden. Howard is a High Priest in the LDS Church, serving in many church callings over his lifetime. His favorites involved serving with the Boy Scouts. He achieved the rank of Eagle, becoming the first of four generations of all Eagle Scouts. He was awarded the Silver Beaver. He coordinated ushering by Boy Scout Troops at every Pioneer Days Rodeo for more than fifty years, involving over twenty thousand scouts.
He retired from the railroad as Roundhouse Foreman in 1978 after 43 years service. He enjoyed, above all else, his wife and family in such activities as boating, traveling, and going to their mountain retreat. His talents included his ability to fix anything and to make many things from scratch.
He leaves behind, in addition to two sons and their spouses, ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one brother, Clive (Dixie) of Bountiful. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, one grandson, one granddaughter-in-law, his parents, and three sisters.
Special appreciation is extended to Trudy, Kelli, Rex, Mike, Jordan, and the complete staff of Advocate Hospice, for their unbelievable care and love for Dad, and their concern for his every need. Thank you Dear Friends.
