December 2, 1942 — March 10, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Our husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Howard Lee Smith Jr., age 83, of South Ogden, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, in his home.

Howard was born on December 2, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Howard Lee Smith Sr. and Josephine Smith (Price).

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held a number of positions within the Church, to include service in the Bishopric, High Priest Quorum, and Elder’s Quorum. He was also a Boy Scout leader. His favorite calling in the Church was service. He felt it was important to serve anyone in need, and he made sure to pass that love for service to his children and grandchildren as well. He spent some time in his Ward’s choir, but he’d be the first to tell you that he couldn’t sing.

On June 7, 1963, he married Antonia Overdiek in the Logan Temple. They were married for 63 years.

He graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1961. He was on the swim team and didn’t know how to swim. He threw javelin, ran cross country, and was involved in other track and field activities. He loved to play sports, such as football.

He went on to work on the road as a truck driver. He loved being a truck driver more than any other job he held, as he loved the freedom of the open road and the sights he was able to see. But due to the time trucking took away from his family, he hung up his keys and went to work as an aircraft mechanic at Hill Air Force Base.

Howard loved spending time with his family. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed many activities such as camping, hunting, fishing, and driving his Jeep, his 4-wheeler, and his Razor. His favorite place to visit was Island Park. His favorite actor was John Wayne. Every time you’d go to his house and he was watching a John Wayne film, he’d ask you if you’ve seen it before. He loved John Wayne so much that each time he watched a film, it was like he was watching it for the first time. He loved to listen to country music. He especially loved to listen to Johnny Cash, because he was a relative.

Howard and Tony have four children, Howard (Maria) Smith, Wayne (Sheila) Smith, Tina (Gary) Sanzone, and Rob (Trish) Smith, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Howard was preceded in death by his father, Howard Lee Smith; his mother, Josephine Smith (Price); his sister, Patricia Taylor (Smith); his brother, Les (Red) Smith; his grandfather, Franklin Arnel Price; and grandmother, Millie E. Price (Record).

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Riverview Cemetery, Tremonton, Utah. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
