Hortencia H. Sandoval, affectionately known as Huelita, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on January 21, 2026. She lived a full, rich life, and she brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Hortencia was born on December 21, 1930, in San Marcos, Texas. She was the eldest child of the late David Hernandez and the late Luciana Carrizales of San Marcos, Texas. She was raised by her aunt, Juana Carrizales, and lived a life defined by strength, perseverance, courage, love, and unwavering devotion to her family.
As a young woman, she married the late Jesus Pacheco of San Marcos, Texas, and was blessed with one son and three daughters: Elias, Ella, Sophia, and Nelda. During these early years, Hortencia dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising her children while lovingly helping her Tia Juana and extended family, always placing family at the center of her life.
Hortencia was a woman who loved her family and had a great sense of humor. One of her greatest passions was helping those in need.
In 1968, Hortencia found love again and married her late husband, Enrique Sandoval of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Together, they welcomed their youngest daughter, Melody, completing their family and beginning a new chapter.
Hortencia passed away surrounded by family, including her daughter, Melody Brown; son-in-law, David Brown; and granddaughters, Natalya Brown and Adryanna Brown. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, courage, generosity, and unwavering commitment to those she loved.
Hortencia is survived by her children, Elias Pacheco, Sophia Chandler, Nelda Gazder all of Texas, and Melody Brown of Utah; her grandchildren, Clint Chandler, Heath Chandler, Krystal Chandler, Lisa Rodriguez, Jessie Rodriguez Jr., Vinel Espinoza, Abraham Espinoza, Norma Espinoza, and Vincent Espinoza of Texas; Natalya Brown and Adryanna Brown of Utah; as well as her many great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to honor and cherish her legacy.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 East 5500 South, South Ogden. A family farewell will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
