Herald L. Nilo

October 16, 1948 — February 11, 2023

Herald L. Nilo, 74, of Layton, Utah departed this life peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 12, 2023. Born on October 16, 1948, in Ango, Pangasinan, Philippines, he was the son of Tranquilino Mas Nilo and Ambrosia Lapitan Nilo.

He immigrated to the United States and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1974. Herald spent 20 years of his life serving his country, and his service allowed him to travel around the world, including to South Korea and Kuwait. He retired in 1994 with the rank of Seargeant at Hill Air Force Base.

Herald was an avid runner and never missed his daily early morning jog. He also loved to cook breakfast on Saturday mornings of his famous and popular steak and eggs. With his passion for gardening, he nurtured his roses with love, care, and attentiveness-the same he gave to his family. He was a disciplined man and always wanted to present his best self, and he became known for his sharp dressing and punctuality, instilling these traits in everyone around him. Herald was full of life and wisdom, and when he laughed, he brightened any space he was in. He is leaving a deep and lasting imprint on this world, and he is loved and will be missed by many.

Herald is survived by his wife Jennifer; sons Herald Jr. and Sean; daughter Iona; stepchildren Joel. Isabella, and Juliana; grandchildren Rowan, Kyon, Greyson, and Briana; sister and brother-in-law Nora and Tony Doctor; nephews Dennis and Kyle; nieces Rowena, Janelle, and Lee Ann.

He was preceded by his parents, his wife Gloria, and his brother Henry Nilo.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Street, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. A Vigil with Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.
