Helen Virginia Neumunz

Helen Virginia Walterskirchen Neumunz, age 99 passed away in Layton, Utah at Fairfield Village on June 16, 2021. She was born May 22, 1922 in Woburn, Massachusetts to William and Jean McAuliffe Walterskirchen.
She attended the University of Montana in Missoula, The Sorbonne in Paris, France and the Pratt Institute in New York, New York. She has also lived in San Francisco, California, Oradell, New Jersey, Hampstead North Carolina and Layton, Utah.
She served in the United States Navy during World War II from June 1944 to August of 1946.
Helen married George Martin Neumunz on December 31, 1948 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and together they raised three sons and a daughter. George passed away in January of 2014.
She was raised in the Catholic Church; eventually she became a member of the Unity Church.
Helen was a chairperson of Bergen County, New Jersey Republic Party and a member of the Planning Board in Oradell, New Jersey.
She was an outstanding golfer; she was the girls’ champion of Missoula Community College, an eight time winner of the Hackensack Golf Club. She was a 14 time winner of the North Carolina Senior Games, and was a two time winner of USA Seniors. Helen also had a patent on a golf putter.
Helen is survived by children; sons, Mark Neumunz, Layton, UT, Greg Neumunz, New York, New York, Ron Neumunz, Charleston, South Carolina daughter Nina Neumunz, New York, New York.
She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers William and Jerome and her sister Maryann Walterskirchen.
Friends may visit with family Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
