Helen Bitter Groberg
FARR WEST- Surrounded by family, Helen Bitter Groberg passed away peacefully on January 20, 2012, in Bountiful, Utah. After 91 fulfilling years, her weathered and timeworn hands reflected her life as a devoted wife and mother, caring grandmother, wonderful homemaker and kind friend. Her witty sense of humor and quick smile endeared her to all who knew her.
Helen was born in Logan, Utah, August 30, 1920, but enjoyed her childhood in Salt Lake City where she attended school at Hawthorne Elementary and South High School. She was a member of the Forest Dale Ward. After her marriage to Charles Groberg, she made Farr West her home for more than 50 years. She faithfully served in numerous church callings, some of which included Primary President, cub scout den mother, Relief Society instructor, stake missionary, and a full-time missionary with her husband in the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission. She was an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple and worked with in-home extraction and Spanish extraction. She was actively involved with the Farr West Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and served as Captain. Her hobbies included quilting, knitting, crocheting and she loved being with her family for camping, hiking, fishing, and rock hounding. She loved her past three years at Heritage Place in Bountiful where she had many friends and could continue her love of reading and family history.
She married Charles Alfred Groberg on April 19, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away October 29, 1992.
Helen is survived by her children, Charles Austin (Carol) Groberg, Honeyville, UT; Anne (Gary) Medlock, Greer, SC; Craig Richard Groberg, Orem, UT; Lee (Jeanine) Groberg, Bountiful, UT; Roger Eldon (Donna) Groberg, Perry, GA; and Lauri (Lon) Eskelson, Morgan, UT.; one brother, Jack Bitter, Montgomery AL; 19 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents; Charles Bitter and Printha Elizabeth Facer; a daughter, Irma Jean Groberg; three sisters, Mae Bitter, Leah Bond, Verna Pumphrey and one brother, Eldon Bitter. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Farr West Ward, 2000 North 2000 West, across from the Farr West City Park. Family will meet with friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
