Heidi Rae Johnson

February 14, 1982 — December 17, 2022

Ogden

Our beloved, Heidi Rae Johnson, passed away peacefully at her home on December 17, 2022, surrounded by her family, after her fierce battle with ALS. She was 40.

Heidi was born on February 14, 1982 to Lori Russell and Rick Patterson in Ogden, Utah. After her early childhood in the Ogden area, at age 8, her family moved to Mountain Green. There she grew up with her older brother, Brandon, twin brother, Bryce, and younger brother Bryan.

Mountain Green was a perfect place for Heidi to grow up. She loved the outdoors, creating cherished early memories of family camping in the tent trailer, and time in Arizona with her grandparents. Heidi got into clogging at an early age and with her natural musical rhythm and fierce competitive spirit, she thrived. She was a cheerleader at Morgan High School where she cultivated loving, life-long relationships with so many, she graduated in 2000.

Creating friendships, loving, and caring for others were a few of her many talents. She was known for her beautiful, always expressive smile, and a contagious laugh that would brighten any room she was in. She was able to further develop these attributes in what turned out to be her favorite job outside the home, working at the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind in Ogden. There, she learned sign language to help her better care for those under her stewardship. She furthered those skills into sign language interpretation. Through relationships developed working as an interpreter, she met her husband, Michael Johnson.

Heidi and Michael were married for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on August 16, 2005. Even the torrential downpour that day wasn’t enough to dampen her smile. Heidi wanted nothing more than to be a mom. She was blessed with that gift when her daughter, Jada, was born in October 2010. Through her trials afterwards, she taught, loved, and cared for her family while working and supporting her husband through school. Shortly after Michael’s graduation, Heidi got to live her dream, and be a stay-at-home mom. She welcomed her sweet baby boy, Emerson, into the world as part of that dream in April 2015. Being a mother to these two precious souls was her favorite. She relished every opportunity to shower them with love.

Aside from her love for Michael and her children, Heidi’s love for her Savior knew no limits. She freely shared her testimony of His reality and the hope found in His message with everyone around her. She enjoyed serving in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, especially the Young Women’s organization. The girls she served and the women she served with held a tender place in her heart.

Heidi followed her spiritual promptings and the change they brought, moving 8 times in their first 15 years of marriage. Heidi and Michael bought their “forever home” in June 2020 where Heidi enjoyed remodeling to get things just the way she wanted. It was in this home that she spent her final days.

Heidi is survived by her husband, Michael, daughter Jada, and son Emerson. She is also survived by her parents Rick (Mary Ann) Patterson, Lori (Paul) Russell, and brothers, Brandon (Kari) Patterson, Bryce (Kim) Patterson, and Bryan Patterson.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Applegate Hospice and the many friends and neighbors who provided food, resources, support, and love.
