Hazel Alene Sessions Willard

October 23, 1940 — May 5, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Hazel Alene Sessions Willard died peacefully at home in her sleep with her husband Paul by her side on May 5, 2026, in Kaysville, Utah at the age of 85.

Hazel was born on October 23, 1940, to Milton Calvin Sessions and Maggie Alene Elison. Hazel is the oldest child in the family and grew up in Farmington, Utah with her six siblings: Patty, Judy, Neal, Zola, Dean, and Lynn.

As a teen, Hazel worked at Lagoon and Davis County Bank. She baby-sat, cleaned houses, and worked as a dental assistant.

While in High School, Hazel was the Deseret News student reporter for Davis High School and graduated from High School in 1958.

Paul, upon agreeing to be set up on a blind date with Hazel, couldn't wait; he went to Lagoon just to see her working at the hamburger stand before they ever officially met. It's safe to say the blind date was a success.

Hazel married Paul Spencer Willard on November 27, 1959, in Farmington Utah. Hazel is the mother of six children: Brenda (Wayne Scadlock), Tibi (Jeff Maw), Bruce (Liz), Greg (Marni), Matt (Becky), and Ryan (Holly). All of them live nearby. Paul and Hazel have 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Hazel and Paul have lived in Utah, Washington, Minnesota, and Missouri. They settled in Kaysville for the last 46 years. Last November, Hazel and Paul celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

Hazel and Paul have always been interested in people, lands, cultures, and all areas of the world. They traveled to Russia, Israel, and Egypt, with a memorable trip across the United States in their motorhome.

When her youngest children were in Junior High, Hazel went back to school and was a perfect straight-A student and graduated from Weber State University in Elementary Education in 1993.

Hazel taught at Kaysville Elementary for ten years and loved the kids!

After retiring as a school teacher, Paul and Hazel served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in St Louis, Missouri in the mission office.

Hazel is famous for her delicious cooking. Hazel was also a master seamstress that made custom blankets for her grandkids and great-grandkids, along with custom baby bath towels as gifts for hundreds of others.

In Hazel’s retired years, she enjoyed being involved with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Hazel is now with her parents and other family members who have passed, and is waiting for us to join her.

Hazel was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, sister Judy, grandson Devin, and grandson Jadon.

Our family is deeply grateful to the caregivers from Caregiver Network, whose kind and compassionate care meant so much to our mother in her final days.
