Harold E. Raleigh OGDEN – Lt. Col. (U.S. Air Force Ret.) Harold Earl Raleigh, died Thursday, May 3, 2007 in Ogden. He was born March 7, 1923, in Salt Lake City, the son of Harold James and Violet Weidman Raleigh. He was reared by his grandmother, Alice Weidman, and educated in Salt Lake City and Ogden. He attended Weber State College in Ogden and graduated from Command and Staff School, Academic Instructor and other specialized courses in the Air Force. He married Georgia Harris in Salt Lake City on September 26, 1942. Georgia preceded him in death on February 4, 2005. Harold served 29 years in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He served in England, Okinawa, Taiwan, China, and Strategic Air Force Headquarters Bases in the U.S. with special assignments in Japan, Germany and Vietnam. Some of his final assignments were three years at HQ U.S. Air Force (The Pentagon) and he retired as the Chief of Operations and Training of the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California. His service Decorations included the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Joint Services Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in the Branch Presidencies in Okinawa, Taiwan, Merced, and Riverside, California. He was a member of the 12th Ward High Priest Group in Ogden. Harold loved his family, friends, church and sports in that order. He participated in skiing, tennis and his great love, golf, over the years. A part-time humorist and full-time gentleman; he was fair with his children and honest with his fellowmen. He loved children and took his children and grandchildren for walks. He supported their interests throughout his life. He loved nature, fresh air, and fresh fruit. He was a survivor and helped his children to be so. He has returned now to his sweetheart Georgia and his Heavenly Father. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed. Surviving are three sons and two daughters, Bill (Becky) Raleigh, Riverside, CA; Marc (Carol) Raleigh, Riverdale; Jack (Tena) Raleigh, St. George; Jill (Arlo) Kunzler, Ogden; Chris (Jon) Pace, Mtn. Green, UT; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Norma Young, Bountiful, UT. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Saturday from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the Hill Air Force Base Honor Guard.
