Harold Garlick

December 10, 1932 — October 1, 2024

Bountiful

Hal was the 1st born son of Harold J. and Helen Garlick. He was born December 10, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah where he was raised with his brother Ray.

Hal was always a hard worker, even during his teenage years as a newspaper carrier riding his bike to deliver papers up to the top of 33rd South in SLC, even in the snow and yes it was up hill both ways to hear him tell it.

After High School he joined the US Air Force serving in places such as Germany and Libia during the Korean War where he worked on aircraft radar systems. This led to a career in engineering at Eimco, then later at Raytheon where he met and enjoyed many long-lasting relationships with a group which called themselves the “Powell Navy” spending many summers with the love of his life, Kathy, at Lake Powell.

After retirement Hal and Kathy fell in love with Flaming Gorge and enjoyed 20 plus years at their home away from home building new lifelong friendships.

Hal enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sports of all kinds but was a hard-core Ute and Jazz fan. He enjoyed visiting with anyone and everyone and enjoyed discussing even taboo topics like politics, but he could do it in a way that while you may never agree, you still felt heard.

He had a smile that would light up a room. Always long on praise, short on criticism, a heart big enough for all and the warmest hugs that are going to be sorely missed.

Hal is survived by his brother Ray; sons, Richard (Jennifer) Garlick, Roger (Rhonda) Garlick, Michael (Tammi) Garlick and daughters, Julie Garlick, Shirley (Scott) Sheffield, Julie (Paul) Mettler; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathy and grandson Josh.

The family would like to thank Ovation Hospice, especially Hailey, for their wonderful care.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday October 10, 2024 from 4-6pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, Utah.
