Harold Cahoon Briggs (Hal)

LAYTON - Harold Cahoon Briggs ("Hal") passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 2011.

He was born September 16, 1928 in Bountiful, Utah, the son of Harold D and Marybelle Cahoon Briggs.

He attended grade school and junior high in Bountiful and graduated from Davis High in Kaysville.

He married Ellen A Whitesides on July 9, 1948 in Layton and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had four children: Joyce (Laurence) Brock, Janet (Kurt) Johnson, Matthew (Valerie) Briggs, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, seven brothers and sisters, and his son, Mark.

Hal was active in the Church, serving as State Clerk, High Priest group leader, and Elder?s Quorum president.

He was employed by Phillips Refinery and retired from Hill Air Force Base after 30 years in procurement. He loved working with wood, spending time in the mountains and doing things for other people.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Layton Stake Center, 60 W Gordon Ave, Layton. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
