Harmon Allen Belknap
July 27, 1955 ~ December 8, 2019
Harmon Allen Belknap, 64, of West Valley City, UT passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 8, 2019, with his dear wife and daughter by his side. Harmon had learned just days earlier that he had pancreatic cancer and after a short but valiant battle, he was fully reconciled and said he was pleased to have been able to express his love and say his goodbyes to those who knew and loved him best. He will be dearly missed.
Born July 27, 1955 in Pontiac, Michigan to Robert Owen and Jean Florence Allen Belknap, Harmon was the third of four children. His grandfather was a traveling circus magician and his mother was the youngest snake charmer in the United States. Harmon’s father was a hard-working employee at General Motors and so he had a fantastic and well-rounded childhood that prepared him for a full and impactful life of adventure and of service to others.
Harmon graduated from Pontiac Central High School Class of 1973. After graduating one of his first jobs was working on a cruise line and he was able to travel the world and meet and mingle with many wonderful people, including famous actors like Cary Grant and singers like Frank Sinatra. In spite of meeting such personalities, Harmon was even more thrilled to be with his family and friends whom he loved like family.
In 1991 Harmon began dating co-worker and fellow ‘ramper’ with SkyWest Airlines, Angela Elaine Wirth. He and Angie fell in love and were married on May 8, 1999. Their ramp romance resulted in a beautiful daughter, Sage, and in a love that will last forever. This May Harmon and Angie celebrated 20 years together.
Regarded by his coworkers as a great mentor, who selected him to receive the Destination Excellence award in 1996. Harmon was a Corporate Security Specialist responsible for new hire training, ground security coordinator training, and much more. He was their anti-terrorism and counter-trafficking expert and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to improve passenger safety and to assist US government agencies in saving lives and securing our nation. As a CSS, Harmon was involved in conducting internal investigations for the company and assisted in the hiring and training of others like himself who have gone on to do amazing work for SkyWest and also for the US government. He was loved, admired, and respected by those he worked with and will be missed by his SkyWest family.
Harmon was a man of many talents and passions.
He also enjoyed reading, studying all things related to World War II, solving cryptic crossword puzzles and making people laugh.
He will be remembered for many qualities, including his sense of humor and ability to speak about any topic. His greatest passions as an instructor were to give his students the tools to save lives, to ensure they were able to make the most of their Sky West experience and to give them the knowledge to do their jobs in a way that co-workers and the public they were serving would have nothing to worry about during their travels.
Harmon also was a student of history and fascinated by the great persons and events that helped shape the world. He has made his own impact upon the world and will continue to be a force for good in the lives of those he was closest to.
He is survived by his wife, Angie Belknap, and daughter, Sage Jacqueline Belknap, both of West Valley City; his eldest sister, Ruth B. (Jock) Felt of Naples, Florida; and younger sister, Nora J. Nynegger, also of Naples, Florida. Harmon was preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Toni Ann Belknap.
A memorial Celebration of Life will be held after the holiday season.
Arrangements for cremation were entrusted to Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N 400 E, Bountiful, UT.
Memorial contributions in his honor are suggested to his daughter Sage’s college fund or to a charity of choice. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
