Harley Hughes Evans

July 26, 1926 — June 2, 2025

Harley Hughes Evans, 98, of Farmington, Utah, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025.

Born on July 26, 1926, in Upalco, Utah, to Margaret Baird and George Henry Evans, Harley was the youngest of six children—following Bessie, Ardon, Ellen, Mary, and Doyal. He lived a life marked by faith, hard work, and deep devotion to family.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Harley cherished temple worship and taught his children to love the gospel. He served honorably in World War II, stationed in the Philippines and Japan, and later contributed to the Apollo space program. He worked for many years as a fighter jet technician and with missile management at Hill Air Force Base.

In 1953, Harley married Laura Jean Potts. Together they raised nine children: Belinda, Tom, Laurel, Lynette, Elaine, Jess, Betty Jo, Ken, and Garn. In 1967, Harley and Jean purchased a 12-acre farm in Farmington, where they raised their family, tended livestock, kept bees, and cultivated peach and cherry orchards. The farm became a place where values were lived and shared—producing not only luscious fruit for the community, but strong roots for future generations.

Harley is survived by his beloved wife Jean, eight of their nine children, 51 grandchildren, and 72 great-grandchildren. His legacy of faith, service, and quiet strength lives on in the family he so dearly loved.

Special thanks to everyone who, for the past many months and years, have and continue to serve our parents with love and kindness including their ministers, JC and Sally Wheelwright, the entire staff at The Villas at Baer Creek and Independence Home Health and Hospice.
