Listen to Obituary

Hal Linden Conover, 68, a long-time resident of Layton, passed away at his home. Born May 1, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Hal was the second of four children of Paul Lyle and Charleen Eckersell Conover.

Hal lived life on the edge. He was born with octane in his blood, testing every limit and boundary. He attended Viewmont High School and afterward began working for his father in commercial construction.

Hal married Dawn Adell Jex on September 27, 1980, in Centerville, and they had two sons, Sean and Craig. They later divorced.

Hal transitioned to working for the City of Bountiful in the early 1980s and remained a faithful employee for several decades. He retired earlier this Spring as Superintendent of Bountiful City Parks.

Hal enjoyed fishing, shooting, and riding his Harleys. He loved camping and was the quintessential outdoorsman.

Hal didn’t say words. He grunted like a dang caveman, but he knew how to get things done. He was a mechanical genius and could fix literally anything. He was a keen observer and a deep thinker. Hal was a gentle giant, quiet in the way he moved through the world, but loud in the ways he made it better.

Hal is survived by his sons, Sean W. Conover, Layton; Craig L. (Sarah) Conover, Clinton; three grandchildren, Rylen, Zane, and Lily; by his siblings, Doug (Colleen) Conover, Hurricane; Rudd (Traci) Conover, South Jordan; Judy (Patrick Fagen) Conover, Woods Cross; by his seven nieces and nephews, including Jeff, Michael, and Adriane Baxter – his fishing and camping buddies; and Hal also leaves behind his two stepdaughters, Natalie Blundell and Stephanie Andrew.

Hal was preceded in death by his parents, by his sister, Jacqueline Conover, and by his daughter-in-law, Michell Renee Conover.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
