Gretchen Roxanne Sitterud

September 26, 1975 — July 15, 2023

Gretchen Roxanne Sitterud of Layton, Utah died unexpectedly from cancer on July 15, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Gretchen was born in Hayward, California on September 26, 1975 to Anne and Michael Sitterud.

Gretchen was very free spirited in her younger years and became a long time resident of Utah.  Gretchen married Scott Mogilefsky August 12, 2004.  Gretchen had three beautiful children Gabriel, Ava and Layla.  Gretchen was dedicated to being a stay-at-home mom to her three children when they were younger.  Gretchen also loved the outdoors and animals, especially horses and geese.

In 2015, the family purchased horse property and this was therapeutic for Gretchen.  Gretchen was able to spend time with the animals when the kids were at school.  Gretchen enrolled at Weber State University in 2017 to complete her bachelor’s degree in pursuit of her dream of becoming an accountant.  On Gretchen’s first day of school, the family basement flooded.  Gretchen took it all in stride and helped with the damage and missed her first day.  She was determined not to have a repeat the next day.  Scott and Gretchen divorced in 2019.

Gretchen ended up completing her bachelor’s degree and also earned her Master’s Degree in accounting.  Gretchen earned several awards and honors while she was at Weber State.  The honors and awards include Summa Cum Laude, Beta Gama Sigma Inductee and Honor Society. After completing her Master’s Degree, Gretchen passed her exam to became a CPA.  Gretchen was always a student in life and always wanting to learn more.

As a family, we were talking about the good times, reciting the Lord’s Prayer and the Serenity Prayer as Gretchen was transitioning.  When Gretchen passed away, her children and Scott were by her side. As a family, we would like to thank the Layton City Fire Department EMT’s, the medical staff that treated Gretchen at McKay-Dee, Intermountain Life Flight and LDS Hospital.  We would also like to thank Josh and the entire staff at Lindquist Mortuary for their support and kindness during this hard time.

Gretchen is survived by her parents, Anne and Michael Sitterud, children Gabriel Mogilefsky, Ava Mogilefsky, Layla Mogilefsky, niece Andi, Aunt Lanie Cates, Aunt Alice Stacey (Dennis), Aunt Marilyn Cates-Copeland (Bob), Aunt Carolyn Hickey, Uncle Phil Sitterud (Bonney), Uncle Bradley Sitterud and amazing cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations to two amazing organization be made.  As a family, we will be donating to plant trees in Oregon to help rebuild the forests that were ravaged by fires.  Let’s see how many tree’s we can have planted in Gretchen’s name, she would love this:
