Greg Van Cummings

April 28, 1958 ~ October 23, 2021

Greg Van Cummings, our beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday October 23, 2021 due to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Throughout his life Greg had many titles, roles, and responsibilities and it is our privilege to share a some of those with you.

Greg was born in Ogden, Utah on April 28, 1958 to Todd and Colleen Cummings. He was their third child and had an older brother that he always admired and looked up to and two sisters, one older and one younger that he loved and looked out for. Greg loved his parents and was proud to be a momma’s boy. He attended Hillcrest Elementary, Highland Junior High, Ben Lomond High School and Weber State University.

As a young man Greg loved sports and could always be found playing basketball, football, and water or snow skiing with his friends from the neighborhood. His pride and joy was his 1967 Pontiac Firebird and he spent many Saturday mornings washing and preparing it for a night out with friends. It remained his favorite car until the purchase of his dream truck, a 2018 GMC Sierra Denali. Greg honorably served a mission for his Church in Dallas, Texas, and loved sharing stories about his time there.

In March of 1980, Greg met the love of his life, Kathy, at an Institute dance at Weber State. A year later they were sealed for all time and eternity on March 19, 1981 in the Ogden LDS Temple. Greg and Kathy built their first home in Roy, Utah and welcomed four children into their life, two boys Jeff and Brad and two girls Katie and Kylee. Greg worked hard to provide a great life for his family, instilling in them the importance of family and a strong work ethic. Greg loved watching his kids grow and fulfill their dreams. Then came his grandchildren where we got to meet Greg the grandpa, the role he was born to play. Jaxon, Devyn, Brooklyn, Jace and Sophie became his world.  His favorite place away from home was our regular family trip to Big Wash where the family would hike, four-wheel, swim and enjoy quality time with each other.

Greg had many jobs, but it was real estate where he found his true passion and calling. Working alongside his cousin and friend, Steve, he helped find forever homes not only for his children but so many others. Few things brought Greg more joy than helping someone find a place they could call home.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he fulfilled many callings, including Bishop, Gospel Doctrine Teacher and Stake High Council.  While he loved each of those callings, he felt most at home being a Primary Teacher with his wife. He loved watching his grandchildren and primary classes sing their hearts out at the annual Primary program.

Greg is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Jeff and Amy Cummings, Brad Cummings and Sean Quigley, Katie Cummings, and Kylee and Paul Goodrich; his grandchildren, Devyn Egbert, Brooklyn and Jace Cummings, and Sophie Goodrich; mother-in-law, Myrtle Jensen; brother, Dr. Todd Cary and Kay Cummings; sister, Vicki and Marc Sorenson, and sister, Debbie and Phillip Child. Greg was preceded in death by his loving parents, Todd and Colleen Cummings; grandson, Jaxon Egbert and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. the mortuary. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.

The Family would like to thank Ryan Westbroek, FNP and Shelby Pitts, FNP for all the help they have given Greg this year.  From the beginning of this rough diagnosis, they were always a phone call or text message away, answering calls even on vacation or while spending time with their families. Not only did they regularly check up on Greg, but they would contact his children to make sure they were holding up as well. They went above and beyond their job and Greg’s family cannot express in words the amount of appreciation we have for these two individuals.

The Family would also like to thank all the nursing staff at McKay Dee Hospital on the IMC floor for the service they provided. Specifically, the family would like to thank Ally Burton, RN, neighbor and close friend, for proving help and comfort to the family and nurse Aaron and Dr. B for their care of Greg in his final hours.
