Gordon Kay Theurer age 99 passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025 at the William E. Christoffersen Veterans Home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Gordon was born on January 26, 1926 at home in the old brick house (Howell-Theurer House US Nat'l Register of Historic Places) in Wellsville, Utah to Herman Frederick and Julia Sjoberg Theurer. He was the youngest of seven children. His parents owned and ran a dry goods mercantile called the Golden Rule Store that was right next door. After graduating from Cache Valley High School he enlisted in the Army Air Force. Shortly after WW II ended, Gordon was honorably discharged. He served a 2 1/2 year mission to Sweden for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended Utah State College earning a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with an emphasis on Aeronautics.
Four children, Rita, Bonnie, Tresa and David were born from a union of marriage with Margery Jean Stott (later divorced). A fifth child Tiffany was born from a union of marriage with Donna Faye Williams (later divorced). Marilyn Rushton was Gordon's fourth wife, whom he cared for until her passing in 2017.
Gordon began working at Hill Field Air Force Base as an editor for airplane repair manuals while still attending college. In the mid 1960's he started his own business, A-1 Staple and Nail. After 16 years at Hill Field AFB he gave up his desk job to focus full time on his staple and nail business. This was much better suited to Gordon where he could engage and interact with people face to face, forming long time business associates and friends. There were many and multiple other small side business hustles he engaged in all his life. Having grown up in sales, it was deeply ingrained in his blood to never let a good deal or opportunity pass him by.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, and in his younger years flying airplanes. He also loved gardening and especially ballroom dancing.
He is survived by four children Rita B (James Orman) St. George, Utah, Son-In-Law Kevin Howard, North Salt Lake, Utah, Tresa Hackford, Eugene, Oregon, David (Linda) Theurer, Layton Utah. Tiffany (Doug) McLaws, Manning Iowa, fifteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wife Marilyn Rushton, daughter Bonnie Howard, Siblings Therma (Thayer) Theurer, Lucile Demerest, Evelyn Jennings, LeRoy Theurer, Helen Dutra, and Kathleen Olson.
