Gladys Mae Russell

Gladys Mae Russell of Riverdale, age 100, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012. She was born on February 20, 1912 in Ogden to Alfred and Alice Slater Rackham.

She married James D. Russell on September 20, 1932. They were sealed in the LDS Temple when they were in their 80''s.

Gladys worked for JC Penney''s for 20 years as the "elevator girl" and at the candy counter.

She loved cats and always had one and fed many strays.

Gladys was an excellent cook. Her pies were everyone''s favorite. Gladys grocery shopped daily. She greeted the butcher by name in every grocery store. They cut and wrapped meat to her specifications.

She always says "hey kid" when addressing anyone she talked to.

Gladys is survived by her children, Betty (Larry) Austin, Lynda (Kenny) Andersen, and Dean (Linae) Russell; and 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and all of her siblings.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
