Gertrude Marie Graham Raymond
Gertrude Marie Graham Raymond, our beloved "Aunt Gert", passed away peacefully on March 7, 2012 at the home of her grand-nephew and his wife. Gertrude was born on February 7, 1913, the youngest of the nine children of Alexander Ross and Marie Jorgenson Graham. She grew up in Eden, Utah and graduated from Weber High School in 1931.
She married Alma Ewing "A.E." Raymond on December 18, 1936. They had no children, but were known and loved as Aunt Gert and Uncle Ray to family and non-family members alike. Uncle Ray passed away September 29, 1969.
Aunt Gert worked at the Ogden Arsenal during World War II, worked several years at the Troy Laundry and Sanitary Laundry, then spent the rest of her career working at Hill Air Force Base where she was repeatedly recognized for her outstanding work. In 1978, she was recognized as Woman of the Year by the Ogden Chapter of the American Business Women''s Association. She retired in 1986 after 36 years of government service. She joined the Benevolent Patriotic Order of DOEs'' Ogden Drove in 1975 and served as Drove Secretary for 24 years. She traveled extensively with the DOEs and was "Aunt Gert" to all the Elks and DOEs that knew her across the country. She cherished her friendships with the ladies in the Drove. Aunt Gert spent thousands of hours doing volunteer work and was selected by the Standard Examiner as "Volunteer of the Month".
Aunt Gert was such a majestic lady. She was strong of character, and was so loving, kind, and charitable. Her final thoughts were of her family and close friends. She will be missed here by so many, but was welcomed on the other side of the veil by her husband, parents, three sisters, five brothers, and beloved niece, Helen.
