George Gust Bistolas 1927-2012
CLEARFIELD a" George Gust Bistolas, 84, passed away from congestive heart failure January 1, 2012.
He was born March 7, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Constantine George Bistolas and Panayeota Constantine Patropaulos. On September 20, 1953, George married Elayne H. Lambrose in Salt Lake City at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
He served his country in the Army during World War II. George was a member of the Salt Lake City Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Ogden Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration. He had many friends, a joke for every situation, and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. George worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 29 years. He received many awards and citations making improvements in departments in California and New York.
George enjoyed bowling serving as League Secretary for leagues in Pennsylvania and Utah, hunting, fishing, Pinochle, Wendover getaways, concerts, tennis, rollerskating and in his earlier years he played trombone.
George is survived by his wife Elayne and daughters, Peggy (Robert) Miller, Layton; and Georgette (John) Likens, Syracuse; granddaughter, Johanna (Bryn) Stull, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sister, Stella (Guy) Kalaris, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and brother, John (Elizabeth) Bistolas. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dean; daughter, Karen; brother, Jimmy; and sisters, Elaine and Maria.
He enjoyed serving his church first as an Altar boy for 8 years at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Greek School and in later years at the Utah Greek festivals.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration, 674 42nd Street. Friends and family may visit on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Trisagion Service at 7:30 pm. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday from 12 to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration.
