Gaylynn Hamlen

Gaylynn Hamlen, our beloved mother, grandmother, and wife passed away on July 27, 2025, after a long and valiant battle. She was 73 years young and peacefully resting at home when her soul left her mortal body.

She was born, in Ogden, on September 26, 1951, to Lewis “Doc” and Faye Atkinson Taylor of Farr West, Utah. Gaylynn had two younger brothers, Brent Lewis Taylor and Brad Taylor. She attended Weber High School and Weber State University. Growing up on the farm, Gaylynn spent many hours “mothering” and taking the baby chicks and piglets on walks in the stroller. She would spend many hours riding horses with her best friend, Anita Taylor. Gaylynn would love and care for many animals throughout her life even when she eventually left the family farm in Farr West. The only thing Gaylynn loved more than her animals were her family and her husband.

Gaylynn married John Raymond Hamlen on May 23, 1981, at Hill Air Force Base. They were sealed for all time and eternity in the Ogden Temple on July 17, 2010. They raised four children, Stacy (Naser) Awadh of West Haven, Brent W. Houlden of Farr West, Megan Rose Hamlen of Farr West, and Tyler John Hamlen of Farr West. Gaylynn and John were grandparents to six grandchildren, Ali Awadh, Abraham Awadh, Joseph Awadh, Damien John Curtiss, Kane Edward Curtiss, and Sarah Awadh.

She was a friendly, caring, kind, strong, committed, loving, generous, helpful, humble, and faithful child of God. She loved being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also loved retail therapy and making new friends wherever she went. Her newest friends were the crew of JC Penny and Cheddars.

Gaylynn loved her many adventures and fun times spent with Janet Hadley, her sister-in-law. She would spend many hours laughing and watching Netflix. Gaylynn also loved spending time with her “favorite” cousins, nieces, nephews, kids, grandsons, and granddaughter. (You all know who the “favorites” are.)

She was a dedicated and hard-working individual. She developed her love of working with the public by volunteering for the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind. She then worked many years at Mervyn’s in the Newgate Mall. Gaylynn retired after many dedicated years of assisting and teaching special needs students in Weber School District.

Gaylynn is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was met by her her parents; little brother, Brent; and grandparents when she transitioned from mortality to eternity.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Farr West 8th Ward Chapel, 1800 West Harrisville Rd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Gaylynn will be laid to rest at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd,

A luncheon will be held at the Farr West Church upon completion of the services.
