Gary Douglas Parkin

April 28, 1960 — December 3, 2023

Gary Douglas Parkin passed away December 3, 2023 after a courageous 6 month battle with liver cancer. 

 

Gary was born April 28, 1960 to Floyd Barber and Eldora Bone Parkin in Salt Lake City, Utah. Gary graduated from Davis High School in 1978 where he lettered in multiple sports and had many fond memories with his friends.  He attended Weber State University.

 

He married Lisa Robinson and together they had two children, Danielle and Bridger Gary Parkin. They later divorced.

 

Gary worked framing houses before moving on to a long career in aerospace, retiring in January 2021 after 37 years. This is where he met the love of his life, Kaye Ferrin. Gary and Kaye wed at the two’s beautiful home that would later become known as the “Parkin Lot” on June 4, 2005, where their two families became one.  

 

Gary was an avid sportsman. He had a deep passion for hunting, fishing, biking, and hiking. Gary enjoyed spending summers with his family in Bear Lake and the Uinta mountains.

 

Gary’s love and devotion to his wife Kaye was incredible and unwavering right up to his last breath. His grandchildren describe him as a best friend not just their grandpa. Gary was a wonderful friend and neighbor, always making his community a better place, he will be greatly missed by all that knew him. 

 

Gary is survived by his wife, Kaye Parkin, Plain City; children: daughter, Danielle Parkin, Kaysville; son, Bridger (Sophie) Parkin, Farr West; daughter, Randee (Jesse) Higgins, Mukilteo, Washington; son, Zach (Stacie) Glover, West Weber; and daughter, Lindsy (Derin) Burningham, Layton; 22 grandchildren with one on the way, one great-grandchild; siblings, Sharon (Devere) McKay, Janice (Tim) Brink, Debra (Bob) Renie, David (Cheryl) Parkin, Susan (Joe) Shanklin; mother-in-law, Anita Ferrin; sister-in-law, Joyce (Mark) Blanscett;  brother-in-law, Boyd (Pam) Ferrin; sister-in-law, Kathy (Aaron) Hancock; brother-in-law, Brett (Kristin) Ferrin; and brother-in-law, Matthew “Biff” Robinson; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

  

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Eldora Parkin; brother, Michael Parkin; and father-in-law, Glaydon Ferrin.  

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Plain City 1st Ward Chapel, 2280 North 3600 West. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Plain City Cemetery.

 

The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Johnson and the staff at Intermountain Healthcare Oncology and Infusion. A special thanks to the hospice nurses who took such great care of him in his final days.
