Fred Kindred, Sr.

Fred Kindred, Sr., 90, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. He was born on August 3, 1927 in Porterville, CA to Ross and Zella Clark Kindred. He graduated from Ogden High School at the age of 18. Fred joined the Army Air Corps on January 30, 1946, serving in Guam in the post office for over one and a half years during World War II.
He met Nannie Francis Tuck in Ogden, when mom was 22. They were married on January 27, 1950 at the courthouse and had five children, Susan Nan, Fred Jr., Nancy Lee, Marlene Rozela, and Scott Eldredge. Mom was very sick as a child and after 28 years of marriage mom got sick and passed away. Fred then married Vivian Louis Hoffines on July 31, 1979 and she later passed away on December 25, 2016.
Fred worked at Defense Depot of Ogden for 21 years before becoming an aircraft mechanic at Hill Air Force Base for 17 years, retiring in 1982.
Fred is survived by his children, Scott (Rhonda) and Marlene “Marcie” (Darrel) Sluyters; son-in-law, Jim Barnes; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and sister, Wilma (Don) Butters. He was preceded in death by his two wives; son, Fred Jr., daughters, Nancy Barnes and Susan (Dennis) Saxton; granddaughter, Nikki Kindred; parents, sisters, LuAnna Fowers and Wanda Green.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
