Fred Dean Dougherty 1940-2012

Fred Dean Dougherty passed away January 7, 2012 at the age of 71 due to causes incident to age.

He was born on January 22, 1940 to Joe and Fern Dougherty in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Utah in 1968 and became the head chef at several restaurants in Salt Lake City throughout his career. He made his home in West Bountiful, Utah where he won numerous yard beautification awards throughout the 1980''s. Fred enjoyed spending his time with family, cooking, creating beauty in his yard, listening to Elvis Presley, and watching old John Wayne movies.

Most of all, Fred would want to be remembered for his intense love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There was nothing he enjoyed more than reading his Bible and sharing the love of Jesus with everyone and anyone he met. Fred went through many storms and battled demons, but "Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world" and Fred was living proof of this scripture. He was active in his church at Abundant Life right up until his last living Sunday. He was even discussing eternal life and salvation with the hospice nurse the night before he passed. Fred loved people and loved sharing Jesus with people.

He is preceded in death by his father Joe and his mother Fern Dougherty. He is survived by his brother Joie, his sister Peggy Heidrich, and many nephews, nieces, and other family members that will miss him (and his BBQ sauce).

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, January 13, 2012 at Abundant Life Church, 410 North Main St. North Salt Lake, Utah. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Care entrusted to Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary.
