Listen to Obituary

It is with deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Frank Ferrante, our beloved and cherished husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, neighbor and friend to all.

Frank Ferrante was born on September 11, 1933, in Boston, Massachusetts and lived in the Jamaica Plains neighborhood. Frank was the fifth child born to Felice and Giacinta DePalma Ferrante, strong Italian immigrants from Bari, Italy.

He had two brothers, Dominic and Joseph and two sisters, Sabina and Serafina.

Frank attended Boston Technical High school in Boston, Massachusetts. In the fall of 1949, when he was 16 years old, he lied about his age and joined a Marine Corps Reserve Unit in Hingham, Massachusetts. He was an infantry Marine. In June 1950 he was on Reserve Training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The Korean War was declared and they activated his unit. He was still 16 years old, so his family notified the Marine Corps. He was discharged from the Marine Corps at that time. Soon after, when he became of legal age, he went back in the Marine Corps in December of 1950 and was sent to Recruit Training Paris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of recruit training, instead of going back to the infantry, and due to aptitude tests, he was selected to attend Supply School at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina. He complained but they told him he had no choice. Then he was sent to the Marine Corps Supply Center Barstow, California. He was then transferred to Marine Barracks Naval Supply Center Clearfield, (now The Freeport Center).

While stationed at the Navy Supply Depot in Clearfield Frank was introduced through a friend to the beautiful Beverly Perkins. The courtship blossomed and they wed on October 16,1953 in Kaysville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Their marriage produced four amazing children, Chris Mercer (Jim), Debbie Herr (Jeff), Ellie Wood (Kurt) and Jon Ferrante (MaLinda).

That was the start of 18 family and household moves for the next 20 plus years. In 1961 he had 12 years in the Marine Corps and was a Staff Sergeant, he applied for and was selected for direct commission as an officer 2nd Lieutenant. He was an Infantry, Supply, Logistic and Fiscal person in the Marine Corps. As an officer he was a special advisor and on the Staff to various Commanders on logistic and fiscal matters (specifically monitoring non appropriated government funds). He and his family bounced back and forth across the country from the East Coast, West Coast, Hawaii and two unaccompanied overseas assignments with the 3rd Marine Division in Japan/Okinawa and the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam .

They had their first child, a daughter, Chris, in March of 1956. He then was sent overseas to Okinawa/ Japan for 18 months. Leaving his small family behind in Kaysville. He and Bev then had two more Daughters, Debbie born in Utah in 1958, Ellie born in Utah in1961, and son Jon, born in California in 1965.

After 24 years in the Marine Corps, Frank had to make a decision to stay in the Corps or retire. If he stayed in the Corps, he was slated to go to Japan again unaccompanied, and then assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps Washington DC for three years with the good possibility of getting promoted. The girls expressed a strong desire to graduate from Davis High School like their mother. They had moved enough and the family made the decision for him to retire from the Marine Corps, he having achieved the rank of Major, in June of 1973. The family relocated back to Kaysville, Utah. Frank was proud to say that all of his children and most of his grandchildren had graduated from Davis High School.

He is very grateful to have served in the Marine Corps and the opportunity he had to progress as an individual. He entered the Marine Corps as a high school drop out and as an enlisted private and retired with a college degree and as an Officer with the rank of Major. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with the V device for Valor. Presidential Unit Citation Medal with two stars, National Defense Medal, Marine Corps Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medial, Vietnam Presidential Unit Medal. Five letters of Commendations from various Commanders including one from the top Marine, the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Frank attended college in California, Virginia then Washington D.C. where he graduated in Accounting Cum Laude from Strayer University.

After retirement from the Marine Corp, Frank and Bev relocated their family to Kaysville, building a home located off of Mutton Hollow Road on Ewe Turn. Frank was employed with Olsen Chevrolet, then later Murdock Chevrolet as their Comptroller. He retired after 33 years of employment in October of 2006.

Frank and Beverly traveled the world extensively, seeing countries and places many people only dream about. Some of the countries visited were - China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Hong Kong, Israel, Egypt, Venezuela, Panama, France, England, the Caribbean, Canada and all over of the United States.

Frank was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved his ward family, the Kaysville 20th ward. He served faithfully in various wards and stake positions. He served as a temple worker at the Bountiful Temple and was a Boy Scout Committee Chairman.

Frank enjoyed spending time with his family, attending Utah Jazz games as season ticket holders for 30 years, BYU athletics, and he developed his love for the Boston Red Sox where he frequented Fenway Park as a child delivering ice with his father.

He was actively involved in researching his family history and was the chairman of a local Italian genealogical group. Frank has instilled and passed on to his children and grandchildren the honor of being an American and being of Italian heritage.

Frank and Bev have always supported their children and grandchildren, attending every sporting event and game, theatre production, musical, parade, dance recital, any activity that they participated in, including dancing with them and our mother at every opportunity. It never mattered what it was, Frank and Bev were there in attendance, showing support.

Frank was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mutton Hollow Improvement District and an officer in the American Legion Post 27 Farmington which had him participating in events and funerals weekly.

Frank and Bev have been married 72.5 years and shared a wonderful life together.

Frank was a stalwart, compassionate and ethical man. We are proud to call Frank Ferrante our father, along with us, his eleven grandchildren, Adam (Bonnie), Nathan, Emily (Graham), Bryce (Laura), Ansley (Shawn), Cassidy (A.E.), Mason (Candice), Taeler (Michael), Jazmin (Chase), Kyle and Sophie (Brian) have learned from his example and hard work ethic and the soft way that he showed love and compassion for others.
