Florine Jensen Hadley

March 19, 1929 ~ May 24, 2016

Florine Jensen Hadley passed away peacefully on May 24, 2016 surrounded by family.  She was born on March 19, 1929 to Ernest Lewis and Viva Irene Jensen at their family home in Farr West, Utah.  She was the second of five children.  In 1937 the family moved to Farr West to their new home – the fire station on 12th  St in Ogden where her father became the Weber County Fire Chief.  She attended Mound Fort Junior High and Ogden High School, graduating in 1947.

Florine married her high school sweetheart, Harold O. Hadley in the Logan LDS Temple on April 15, 1948.  They lived in Ogden four years before building the home in Plain City, Utah where they remained their entire lives.

Florine’s earliest memories were sitting on the kitchen counter to receive her nightly dose of cod liver oil and a spoonful of sugar.  From early childhood Florine leaned the value of hard work.  At age 12 she was employed at a local drug store washing dishes for 10 cents an hour.  She subsequently worked other jobs before beginning her career as an office clerk at Wonder Bread until retiring in 1990 after 28 years. Her work ethic was passed on to her three children through cultivation of the family’s annual asparagus crop.

Florine and Harold enjoyed travel.  They took many bus tours and ocean cruises with friends and family.  She had traveled to 46 states and began collecting magnets as mementos and memories to share with her children and grandchildren.  Soon her children and grandchildren joined in the ritual by adding to her collection and sharing their travel experiences with her.

After retirement Florine and Harold bought a winter home in Scottsdale, Arizona where they spent time together with many friends and visiting family.  She specially enjoyed weekly family home evenings and playing card games with other couples.

Florine loved listening to music, playing the organ, and especially sharing her music abilities with others.  She often played for her family and enjoyed doing so for her husband during his time of failing health.  She loved teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren tunes on the organ.  As a child she worked in her family’s greenhouse and developed a love for flowers and gardens – another of her many passions passed along to her children.

Florine gave of herself in ward and stake service in the Primary, Young Womens, Sunday School, Relief Society, and Family History.  Her favorite was working as Primary Chorister.

She was always a dedicated and loving caregiver to her sweetheart as he dealt with declining health. Florine never left his side in providing for his care until the time of his passing on September 19, 2003.

To describe Florine as generous of heart falls short of her best characterization.  Florine is self-less.  She epitomized the saying: a thing is bigger by being shared.  She seemed continually vigilant to find opportunities to share her time and resources.  Her giving spirit is multiplied in the character of her progeny.

Florine is survived by her three children, Sherry (Bruce) Oyler, Dennis (Coral) Hadley, and Kaydeen (Jay) Jensen; 14 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Betty (Jim) Harmon, Zelda (Keith) Barnett, Rex (Saundra) Jensen; and sister-in-law, Carol Jensen.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents, and brother, Jerry Jensen.

As a family we would like to express appreciation to Quail Meadow Assisted Living and Canyon Hospice for the dedication and service provided to our mother.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Plain City 4th Ward Chapel, 2335 North 4350 West.  Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.  Interment, Plain City Cemetery.  Services entrusted to Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary.
