Evelyn Mae Glasmann Maw Ladd, beloved matriarch, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, role model, and beacon of generosity, resilience, and positivity, died peacefully on January 8, 2026, at her home in Atascadero, California, of causes incident to advanced age after a long, full life.
Born in Ogden, Utah, on April 17, 1927, to William W. Glasmann Sr. and Juanita Richards Glasmann, Evelyn was the fourth of six children (with four brothers, William, Robert, Edward, Richard, and one sister, Janet). She grew up in Ogden where she loved working at her family’s Orpheum Theatre on Washington Boulevard (she often shared how she watched her favorite movie, Gone With the Wind, hundreds of times when it was released in the theatre). She graduated from Ogden High School where she was affiliated with Zeta Phi Xi and attended Weber College.
Evelyn was a career woman. Her father encouraged her to work and to be independent, so she left her family’s theatre business and enjoyed a 32-year career with the phone company, Mountain Bell, where she retired as a training supervisor in 1979.
Evelyn married Keith W. Maw, August 31, 1945, in Ogden, Utah. They were together 36 years until his passing in 1981. They built their home and an Arabian horse ranch in Layton, UT where they raised purebred Polish Arabian horses, along with their three children, K. Randy Maw (deceased), T. Rick Maw, and Susan Maw Van Alfen.
She later married Colonel Robert B. Ladd USAF (Ret) (1917-2009). She and Bob spent 28 delightful years together and enjoyed traveling the world, reading, golfing, and entertaining friends and family at their homes in Layton and Peoria, AZ. They both had a passion for horses and together successfully championed several Arabian show horses.
Together, they enjoyed a large family: sons, Kenneth G. (Dee) Ladd, William M. (Debbie-deceased) Ladd-deceased, K. Randy-deceased (Gayle Anne) Maw, T. Rick (Melinda) Maw; daughters, Robbin A.-deceased (Sharon), Ladd PhD, and Susan Maw Van Alfen; and their many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Evelyn will be most remembered by her family as an inspiration for her generosity, her work ethic, her bright smile and positivity, and her unwavering love and kindness. She loved animals and nature. She was well traveled and she loved games and gambling and had a knack for luck throughout her life. She loved reading and shopping. She loved music and would often dance and sing with her grandchildren. She had a lifelong love of the movies and some of her favorite times were spent curling up with her great-grandchildren to watch an animated feature. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
