Listen to Obituary

Eva Marie Hanley (née Shaffer), 74, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026. She was born on August 24, 1951.

Eva faced profound challenges early in life. Her father passed away when she was just eleven years old, and she spent much of the remainder of her childhood in children’s homes. Despite these hardships, Eva carried a resilient spirit and a deep strength of character that defined her life. She never allowed her difficult beginnings to dim her warmth, kindness, or determination.

Eva was first married and welcomed two children from that union: Alex and Craig.

She later married the love of her life, Kenneth Hanley. Eva and Kenneth shared nearly 49 wonderful years of marriage until Kenneth’s passing on March 6, 2021. Their marriage was one marked by devotion, partnership, and enduring love.

As an Army wife for more than 20 years, Eva supported Kenneth through the many demands and moves that came with military life. She created a home wherever the Army took them, raising their family with dedication, strength, and unwavering care.

Together, Kenneth and Eva raised four sons: Kenny, Mark, Clinton, and Shane. Her greatest joy came from her growing family. She was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Michaela, Hannah, Clinton, Faith, Lyle, Zane, Lilly, Gracelyn, Charlotte, and Carter. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Mila, Eli, and Bonnie, who brought her tremendous pride and happiness. Eva is survived by her children, grandchildren, brother Robert, sister Rebecca, sister Darlene, brother Stephen, and brother Tony.

Eva was preceded in death by her beloved husband Kenneth Hanley; her father, Robert; her mother, Alberta; her sisters, Donna and Alberta (“Birdie”); and her brother, Daniel.

Eva will be remembered for her resilience, her devotion to her family, and the quiet strength that carried her through life’s trials. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family she loved so deeply.

She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
