Ethelene Wharton Warton

June 29, 1931 — March 10, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Ethelene Wharton Worton passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on March 10, 2026, in South Ogden, Utah.

Our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Ethelene Worton, was born on June 29, 1931, to Clara Ethel Bogan Wharton and Verdi Estes Wharton in Oark, Arkansas.

Ethelene graduated from Malad High School in 1950. After graduation, she headed to Ogden, Utah. She found employment in the snack bar at the Ogden Union Station where she met the love of her life, Wayne G. Worton. They were married on July 28, 1956, in Elko, Nevada and sealed together with their family for All Time and Eternity in the Logan Temple on June 2, 1964. They had four sons. Her boys were her life, and the rest of her family was her world. She ensured that we each knew how deeply we were loved.

Mom was known as an excellent cook. All of our childhood friends will confirm that. Her pork chops were a favorite; friends were always asking to eat at our house. Mom prepared a wonderful dinner daily. She loved collecting cookbooks, going to yard sales and the swap meet. She enjoyed camping, hunting trips, and going to Unlimited Hydroplane boat races in the 70’s and early 80’s; her favorite boat was the Atlas Van Lines. Reading true detective stories and mystery novels was one of her favorite hobbies. SShe also wrote beautiful poetry, enjoyed crocheting, and loved hummingbirds.

She loved spending time with her family. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved making the seasonal fruitcakes and decorating the Christmas tree. We were all able to help except when it came to the silver glittery icicles. We would watch in amazement as she put them on one by one with perfect placement. She enjoyed wrapping gifts and was very particular with the paper and bows.

Ethelene lost her husband, our father Wayne, on Thanksgiving Eve in 1989. After this loss, she gained strength from our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. She consistently attended church and received a temple recommend. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She taught Primary, was a visiting teacher/ministering sister, a visiting teacher supervisor and a temple worker. She loved going to the temple, even at 94 years of age!

She lost her son, Danny on March 21, 2016; he was truly the “precious” child in our family. He was born with Down Syndrome. Danny was such a blessing to our family. He taught us so many things that only his special spirit could. The first and foremost being “LOVE.” He had the perfect parents who loved him immensely.

In the morning of March 10, 2026, God sent an angel to take our loved one home. We love our mother so very much and are so happy for her. Although we grieve our huge loss, we know she is rejoicing and renewed. She will be sorely missed.

Ethelene is survived by her children, Brian W. (Carole) Worton, Lamont (Darlie) Worton, and Jeffrey Wayne (Kristin) Worton; grandchildren, Chris (Melissa) Worton, Heather (Tim) Vaughn, Wayne (Mandie) Worton, Zachary (Shelby) Worton, Hannah (Casey) Worton, Noah Worton, and Navie Worton; 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
