Estela Gastelum de Cortes, a cherished soul and loving matriarch, passed away on November 9, 2025, at her home in Layton, Utah. She was born on September 26, 1970, in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, and spent her life nurturing and bringing joy to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Estela was united in marriage to Guillermo Cortes on her birthday, September 26, 1998, in Huntington Park, California. Their love and partnership blossomed over the years, creating a warm and welcoming home for their three sons: Guillermo Cortes III, Maximus Cortes, and Tenoch Cortes. Estela's role as a devoted wife and mother was her proudest achievement, her joy echoed in every meal she lovingly prepared and every smile she fostered.
Faith was an integral part of Estela's life. She was a member of the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Layton, Utah where she participated in the prayer group, Divine Mercy group, and engaged in the Readings at the church.
Estela's interests extended into cooking, sewing, and crafting. These hobbies were not mere pastimes; they were expressions of her love and creativity. With each stitch and every delicious dish, she infused her warmth into the lives of her family and friends. Her culinary skills were renowned, often bringing everyone together at the table, sharing laughter and love over meals that were made with care.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Guillermo Cortes, her adored sons, Guillermo Cortes III, Maximus Cortes, and Tenoch Cortes, and her mother, Carmen Sosa. Estela is also remembered by her siblings, Adela, Andrea, Cenaida, Vero, Pilar, Karla, Jose, Jesus, Iganacio, Ramon, and Juan Pable Gastelum, who hold onto treasured memories of their time together.
Estela joins her late father, Atanacio Gastelum, and her dear sister, Guillermina Gastelum, in eternal rest. Though they may no longer be here physically, the love and bond they shared will forever remain in the hearts of their family.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday November 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel Street, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family Thursday November 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. A vigil with Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be held at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton.
As we remember Estela, we celebrate a life filled with love, devotion, and creativity. Her spirit lives on in her family and friends, guiding them through their lives with the same warmth and compassion she so freely shared. Estela Gastelum de Cortes will remain forever in our hearts.
