Elizabeth Tullis

Elizabeth Tullis Elizabeth Tullis, 92, passed away on March 25, 2012 in Ogden, Utah. Liz was known as the "hat lady" for her love of hats. She was featured in a Standard Examiner Easter story on hats, and gave many presentations on hats to local groups. She is now wearing her latest hat, a heavenly halo! Born in Roundup, Montana she grew up in Montana where she developed a love of the outdoors. In 1940 Liz graduated from the University of Montana with a B. A. in Business, and moved to Seattle, WA to work at the Sandpoint Naval Air Station. Harry Tullis was in the Navy and met Liz on a blind date. At the end of the evening he told a friend, "I'm going to marry that woman" and they were married over 60 years. Teaching school, from first grade through High School, in Idaho, Nevada, and Utah enabled her to touch many lives. What most people will remember about her was her extraordinary sense of fun. Liz would try anything--square dancing, hiking, skiing, golf, and kissing the blarney stone. She was absolutely ready for a trip into outer space and wanted those commercial flights to hurry up. Liz and Harry loved to travel and made five trips to China, the first just after China was reopened to the West. Staying in Paradores in Spain and a gypsy wagon in Romania were just a few of her favorite travel memories. Her last favorite trip was to New York last September where she enjoyed the many plays on Broadway. Active in the community Liz was a lifelong member of The First United Methodist Church. She served on the board for The Gallery at Union Station for a number of years. In addition she was a member of P.E.O., Pine Tree, Forest Service Old Timers, Piecemakers, and several bridge groups. She played in one group for over 40 years, and played bridge until the end--winning high in her last game a few days before her death. Liz was very creative and enjoyed knitting and jewelry making. Liz taught her children how to see the best things in the world (look at all the colors in the sky!) and in people and had a fabulous sense of curiosity and never said no to any adventure. Liz is survived by her daughters, Patricia Tucker and grandson, Gary tucker Jr., and Suzanne Gardner and grandchildren, Travis Harrington and Kelly Elson and great-granddaughter, Capri Elson. The Memorial Celebration of Liz’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, 1339 West 400 North, Marriott-Slaterville. Friends may visit family on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, 5001 Angel Canyon Rd. Kanab, Utah, 84741.
