Listen to Obituary

Elden Thomas Knighton, age 65, passed away on March 1, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Elden was born on May 18, 1960, in Ames, Story, Iowa, to John Thomas and Yvonne Marian Ballif Knighton. His family moved to Utah shortly after he was born where he grew up in West Point in a home filled with love, laughter and music.

Elden graduated from Clearfield High School and attended Weber State University. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Mission. He married Shelley Montgomery on December 29, 1992, in the Ogden UT Temple.

Elden was known for his laugh and his beautiful bass voice. He loved to sing in the Ward Choir and harmonize with his kids at the top of his lungs!

Elden retired from UPS in 2016, after 32 years of service. He loved the many people he met during this time. After retirement he worked various jobs and most recently worked at Winegars in Clearfield. We are grateful for their willingness to work with his schedule these past few years.

Elden loved the many camping trips he took with his boys, gardening and late nights with Michael, and reading scriptures with Jessica when she was young.

When Elden heard about the Syracuse Temple, his desire was to serve there. Although he was only there for a short while, he loved his opportunity to serve the Lord.

Elden is survived by his wife, Shelley and their three children; Derek Thomas Knighton, Jessica (Nathan) Lougy, and Michael Elden Knighton; his siblings; Jeanette (Bryan) Stephens, John B. (Vivienne) Knighton, Alice (Brett) Miller, Pamela (Terry) Nelson, Joyce (Brian) Wright, Judy (Ron) Rooks, and Marianne (Eric) Miller. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Knighton and Yvonne Marian Ballif Knighton, and his father-in-law Reese Jan Montgomery.
