Elaine Mariko Patterson, 80, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in Ogden, Utah. She was the oldest child of three children born to Kazuo and Eiko Sato, on May 23, 1944, in Ogden, Utah. Elaine grew up in Ogden and attended Ogden High, graduating in 1962.
If you knew Elaine, it was obvious she was the “fun” person at any gathering. She also made people feel like they were best friends after only a few minutes of being with her. It was her goal to make sure people felt welcomed and had a memorable time in her presence.
She worked at Clearfield Job Corps, where she met her future husband, and later at IRS, as manager in the SCRIPS Data Conversion Department, for many years where she made many lifelong friends.
She married the love of her life Ronald S. Patterson on February 14, 1976, in Ogden, Utah by Ogden Mayor Steven Dirks. They were married 38 years until Ron’s death on June 6, 2014.
She had a talent and a true love for music and learned to play many instruments at a young age. She was especially good at the piano and organ. She played the organ for her church service at Ogden Japanese Christian Church, later named Ogden Christian Church, for more than 20 years. Elaine also played for many other special events. She was a devoted member of the congregation and always welcomed people with a smile as her music filled the air with love.
She loves her Savior and her nose would always be in her Bible, continuing to learn as much as she could about her Lord and Savior. If she wasn’t reading her Bible, you could find her reading other books and loved to talk about them. She loved going on her trips to Wendover, traveling across the country with her husband and parents, fishing, and watching her Utah Jazz. She was a big sports fan and also loved completing jig saw and crossword puzzles with her friends.
Those didn’t compare to the biggest joy of her life. That joy was spending time with her family and friends. She was always most excited to sit and talk, share stories, and share a good prank.
Elaine is survived by her stepsons, Timothy Patterson and Daniel (Dixie) Patterson; brothers, Alan (Penny), Roy, UT, and John (Kristie), St. George, UT; sister-in-law, Gayle Bell; and many loving cousins, nephews, nieces, and too many friends to count.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
Elaine’s family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and aides at Inspiration Hospice for providing compassionate care and making her comfortable in her last days. She dearly loved the staff who cared for her and fellow residents at South Ogden Post-Acute. I know she will be missed, and she will miss them just as so much. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Mitzi and Dennis Yamashita and family for letting Elaine be a second grandma to their grandkids. She cherished every moment with them. A very special thanks to her friend, Shelly Oda, who became a loving sister to Elaine. Shelly always made sure she had things she needed. She is one of many special angels that looked over Elaine. Lastly, friends would like to thank Elaine’s nephew, Stephan, for accepting her Power of Attorney request to make her last decisions and his wife Teresa who always cared for her and stayed with her without leaving her side, even as she passed to heaven.
Our dear stepmother, cousin, aunt, and friend. You touched the lives of so many people throughout your life journey. Your love has been a gift. Love is something you felt you could never give enough, and your love is something that will never be taken away from us. The memories we’ve made will always hold a special place in our hearts. Until we meet again.
Love,
Your loving family and friends
