Earl Floyd Patterson March 11, 1944 a" December 24, 2011
On Christmas Eve, we lost our beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and brother, after a valiant battle with cancer. Earl was born March 11, 1944, to Floyd and LeIda Roberts Patterson of West Point, Utah.
Earl attended elementary school in West Point only having to walk across the street of their humble family home to classes. He attended North Davis Junior High and graduated from Davis High School in 1962, where he excelled in all major sports programs. He went on to play football at Brigham Young University and Weber State University.
He fulfilled his patriotic duty in the Army where he was stationed at Fort Ord in 1963. While he was there, he was lucky enough to be in the movie, "Soldier In The Rain", starring Steve McQueen.
While at Weber State he staked a claim on Mary Lynette Rollins and they were married October 8, 1965 in the Mountain Green Chapel and later on May 2, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His two children, Michael and Amanda were the light of his life. He was a fiercely devoted father, a helper, a friend, a worrying warrior, a source of thundering tenderness, an encourager and a fighter and someone his children never outgrew the need for. He LOVED his children, always giving them fatherly advice and was incomparable at his dedication to providing for his family.
His work ethic was outstanding in whatever he pursued and was fully committed to whatever he was engaged in doing. He gave more than one hundred percent in all endeavors. The knowledge he gained being reared on a farm was beneficial to the endless enjoyment he found while working on the Rollins Family farm in Mountain Green and helping on the Jones'' property. Throughout his life he tried many jobs and vocations and at one time successfully owned Salt Lake Circuits, then later went on to the position of Sales Manager for the Rocky Mountain Region for Great Lakes Case and Cabinet, where he made many wonderful friends and lasting relationships. In 1958, his athletic talent resulted him to be the only civilian chosen to play on the Hill Air Force Base championship Babe Ruth team. In high school he was selected for the National High School All American Football Team his senior year. In 1961, he was Barnes Bank Student Athlete of the year. He was offered an opportunity to play professional baseball for the Pittsburg Pirates after graduation, but declined due to his father''s wishes. He coached church ball being a meaningful comrade with the guys and he continued to play recreation sports throughout the years. His love of golf went beyond all boundaries, winning many tournaments and playing and caddying with professionals on the course. His favorite golf partner was his son, Michael with whom he taught and shared the love of playing and winning. Work was his life and Golf was his passion.
Earl enjoyed fulfilling his callings in the LDS Church. He arrived early at all jobs and stayed late. He was reliable and dependable in all efforts he pursued. His last great accomplishment was baptizing his granddaughter Savana on September 9, 2011.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Lynette; son, Michael (Amy Weston); daughter, Amanda; five grandchildren, Abigail, Savana, Makayla, Adam and Maylee; and sister, Louise (Ron) Fielding.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judy.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Shadow Mountain LDS Ward, 5191 Old Post Rd. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Mountain Green Cemetery.
