Earl Elmer Hess

August 27, 1932 — March 18, 2024

Earl was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 27, 1932.  He grew up in his family Victorian home that was built in the 1800s on Main Street, in Farmington, Utah.  He attended Davis High School where he met the love of his life Ann Malan.   They were married when he was on leave from the Navy on May 18, 1954, and began their life together in San Diego where their first son Dean was born.  They moved back to Utah where they raised their family which included 4 more children DeAnn, Jill, Guy, and Lisa in Kaysville.  They moved to Farmington where they made their last home together.

While in San Diego, Earl was stationed at Balboa Hospital where he worked as a medic and drove an ambulance for the Navy Hospital there.  Shortly after moving back to Utah, he was hired at Hill Air Force Base where he moved up rapidly and worked until he retired.  He also co-owned the Chateau Reception Center where he helped Ann cater weddings, dinners, etc.  After that sold, they continued to cater out of his family home in Farmington.

Earl could fix anything and was often called upon by family, neighbors, and friends to fix cars, appliances, etc.  He loved to travel and travelled extensively with Ann and his family, both foreign and domestic.  As a member of the LDS Church, Earl served in many leadership positions.  He was also a temple worker for many years.  Earl and Ann also catered many events, including the luncheons for families after funeral services, Hill Air Force base parties, and many “empty nester” dinners at their home.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family.  Earl never met a stranger.  He was extremely witty and charming.  He made a friend of everyone he met.

Earl was 91 years old when he sadly left us the morning of March 18, 2024.  He was in Southern California visiting his daughter Jill.   Cause of death, heart attack.  He is survived by his 3 Daughters: DeAnn Archibald (Blake); Jill Brinton (Tim); Lisa Hansen (Tad), 19 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren (3- on the way).  Proceeded in Death by his wife Ann Malan Hess; 2 sons: Dean Alan Hess and Guy Earl Hess; and his Parents: Orson Elmer Hess and Eleanor Udy Hess.

Earl was so loved and will be missed by all.
