Edwin Kent Baggs passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012 with his family at his bedside. He was 90 years old and died of causes incident to age.

He was born in Ogden, June 20, 1921 to Edwin Swaby and Pearl Cross Baggs. He was the second of three children. He attended Ogden City Schools, graduating from Ogden High School. He also graduated from Weber College and Brigham Young University.

Kent served in the US Navy for a brief time during World War II and received an honorable discharge.

He married Josephine Isabelle Young on December 16, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had 10 children. They were married 58 years. She died September 30, 2007. He had lived in the Ogden area his entire life.

Kent was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life. As a young man, he served a mission to the Hawaiian Islands. He was serving in Honolulu on December 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was under fire. He and his wife later served two missions to French Polynesia. He had a great love for the Polynesian people. He learned to speak native Hawaiian and Tahitian and a little French. He continued to study these languages until just a few months ago.

He worked for his father''s business, Wasatch Oil Company, as the credit manager until the company was sold in the mid-seventies. He then worked as the personnel manager at Bank of Utah until he retired. He was a member of the Ogden Lion''s Club for many years.

Kent held many LDS Church positions including ward clerk, stake clerk, and stake missionary. He loved to read the works of the prophets and other church leaders. He also loved missionary work and temple work.

He had many physical challenges in his life but did not let anything hold him back. He was a person of great integrity and all who knew him could trust him. Everyone spoke highly of him.

Kent is survived by nine of his children and their spouses. They include Gaylene (David) Vernieuw, Lanell (Max) Rabner, Janie Carroll, Jerelyn (Mitch) Wilcox, Darcelle (Randy) Housley, David (Vicky) Baggs, Darran (Gail) Baggs, Cory (Julie) Baggs, and Kevin (Ellen) Baggs; 31 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister, wife, and infant son, Roger as well as many in his extended family.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
