Duwain Alma Larsen

SUNSET - Duwain Alma Larsen, age 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Thursday morning, January 19, 2012 at Beehive Homes in Layton, Utah. He was born November 15, 1921 to Alma Burton and Pearl Marie Peterson Larsen.

Duwain spent his early years working with his father on the farm and helping his uncles haul logs for their lumber mill. He graduated from Ephraim High School. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Duwain joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. San Francisco for 3 A½ years in the Pacific Theater, where he earned 15 battle stars. When he returned home he met his sweetheart Ruth Olsen at a dance. They were married November 20, 1946 in the Manti LDS Temple.

Duwain and Ruth resided in Ephraim for the first five years where they were joined by Ned Dee, Rebecca and Mark. They then moved their family to Davis County where Duwain worked at Hill AFB as a crater/carpenter until his retirement. They were joined there by four more sons, Albert, Byron, Owen and Wendell. Duwain also worked at his son-in-law Dave''s print shop for five years after his retirement from HAFB.

Duwain enjoyed outings with his family which included: camping, canoeing, hiking, and hunting. He especially loved visiting the national parks. His family really loved it when he played the harmonica at get togethers. He could play anything he knew the melody for. Duwain was never afraid of hard work, building many things over the years including helping sons build their homes.

Duwain is survived by sons Ned Dee (Judy), Albert (Sue), Owen (Deniece), daughter Rebecca (Dave) Sickler, daughter-in-law Jamie and brother Glen (Sal), 25 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth of 57 years; sons Mark, Byron, and Wendell; brothers Devon, LaRell and Lyal; and sister Vera.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Beehive Homes of Layton for the loving care Duwain received while he stayed there, and to Dignity Home Care for their special care.
