Drue Elizabeth Spalding

November 17, 2009 — July 15, 2023

Syracuse

Our sweet and sassy girl left us too soon and has taken a piece of our hearts with her. Drue Elizabeth Spalding returned to her Heavenly Father and her many relatives on Saturday, July 15, 2023, after a difficult battle with B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Drue was born on November 17, 2009, to Mark and Amy Spalding of Syracuse, Utah. Drue is the youngest of five, and the only girl. Her four older brothers love her and loved to annoy her - and she was very good at reciprocating. As they got older, they enjoyed going on trips together, listening to music, and sitting around talking. One of her favorite trips was to New York, Boston, and Washington D.C. when she was 7.

Drue was full of energy and wanted to try EVERYTHING. She started taking gymnastics when she was 6 and then switched to tumbling when she was 8. She was on the competition team at Flipside for a year and loved it. Drue also clogged at Just 4 Clicks for two years and played volleyball and softball. Drue took voice lessons, piano lessons, begged her brother to teach her guitar, and taught herself how to play the ukelele. She could never sit still for long and was always dancing and singing.

When Drue was in 6th grade she made the cheer team at Syracuse Junior High. She was able to cheer at three or four games but was never able to compete with her team because she was diagnosed with Leukemia on October 27, 2022. Drue made sure she supported her team as much as possible during treatments, but sometimes she was just too sick. She was able to watch them win the championship at Weber State this year.  Drue was asked to be the manager of the 2023-2024 team and did as much as she could to help. Drue loves SJH and will forever be a Seahawk. She had so many wonderful friends there, adults and students alike. They helped lift her spirits and supported her in so many ways. We want to thank the coaches, faculty, and staff for their kindness and love.

We especially want to thank Drue’s many friends. They have texted, called, sent notes, decorated our home, cried with us, and shared sweet pictures of Drue. We are in awe of how many people know and love Drue. We also want to thank the doctors, and especially the nurses at Primary Children’s Hospital. They were so extremely good to Drue and did everything they could to make her comfortable.

Drue is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved her Savior and her Heavenly Father. She was able to receive her Patriarchal Blessing three weeks before she passed away. She knew God loved her and she trusted in Him. Although our hearts are broken, we know Drue will always be part of our lives. Death is not the end, just the next step.

“Keep cheering us on Sweet Girl!”
