Dr. Sydney Enos Wray "Doc"
Dr. Sydney Enos Wray or "Doc" as he was lovingly known, passed away on March 5, 2012 after a 3-month, hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born of goodly parents Enos and Charlotte Hawkes Wray in Pocatello, Idaho on Dec. 6, 1926. He had the childhood every boy dreams of. He had 3 awesome brothers with whom he spent summers living out of a railroad car in West Yellowstone, chasing black bears out of town while their dad was at work for the Union Pacific. He learned to work hard at a young age spending many days on his Uncle Jan and Aunt Vera Keller''s farm in Whitney, hoeing beets for a nickel a row and riding ''old Smoke'' around the property. He attended Pocatello High and volunteered for active duty with the U.S. Navy, proudly serving in Guam during World War II. He graduated from the University of Idaho and Idaho State University.
Syd was a chemist for The Hanford Atomic Plant in Richland, WA until he decided to follow in his brother''s footsteps and move to Kansas City to attend Dental School. While there, he received an award only presented to one student per class for Outstanding Achievement. He graduated Dental School in 1963 and moved back to Bountiful where he practiced Dentistry for 48 years, performing quality Dentistry and making lifelong friends along the way. He loved his patients like family and they loved him. He was a Life Member of The American Dental Association, member of The Academy of General Dentistry, and was proud to serve as the President of The South Davis District Dental Society. In 2007 Syd was excited to travel to Bulgaria and perform Dentistry on over 520 orphans.
He and his wife Jan built their dream home in Kaysville and opened their door and arms to all. He was an active member of the Webb Lane ward. Syd was a master woodworker, making beautiful furniture. He loved to golf and was a former member of Oakridge Country Club. He could smoke a pork loin like no other and could often be found on the patio perfecting a creation on the BBQ. He was widely known throughout the family for his saying, "Butter, salt and pepper, and eat it while it''s hot." He was also an avid Utah Jazz fan and could often be found watching the games with his favorite snack, a big bowl of popcorn and a Pepsi. He grew a wonderful vegetable garden and loved to share. His greatest achievement was undoubtedly his family and all of the many get togethers.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Bonnie Jan Brezoff Wray (Married for time and all eternity); their children, Vickie Lynn Wray Hanson (Dennis), Stephen Enos Wray (Kristy), Kirtland Janus Wray (Caroline), Robyn Lee Wray Bleazard (Steve), David Hansen Wray (Lisa Sutton), William Todd Ransom (Staci), Bonnie Wray Baker (Bryan), Sydney Rose Wray Lindsey (Ben); 26 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren; his brothers and their wives, Dr. David H. Wray (Norene), Dr. Eugene H. Wray (Jackie) and Richard G. Wray; mother-in-Law Caroline R. Brezoff, brother-in-law John Mark Brezoff (Dellena), and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Brittanie S. Hanson.
